another homespun-hand knit annis

I thought I would pop in here with a quick post about another finished project. I’ts finally really finished – I blocked it!

I finished knitting this scarf/shawlette probably in October or November of last year, because I remember wearing it a Thanksgiving.

I’ve actually worn it a few times, curled edges and all. I really like long crescent shape.

It’s one of my favorite patterns, I think I’ve made three of these with a few modifications. It is Annis by Susanne IC.

I knit it from some of my homespun yarn – I think this was Frabjous Fiber.

where do you hide your stash?

I thought I would show you where I keep hide my stash. I have couple Longaberger baskets like you see here full of yarn. The blue bins are full of yarn or WIPs. My puppy, Buddy likes to be in the middle of whatever I’m doing. Most things I make have a few white dog hairs in them.

The brown tub is about 1/2 full of my homespun yarn (remember, most of it is for sale in my etsy shop).

Some of my knitting & spinning library…

My spinning fiber cupboard, I need to get spinning.

Here’s how I store my knitting needles, I have two zip close 3 ring binders and a bunch of zip close pockets. I use 1 pocket per size to keep my circulars, double-pointed and straights (if they fit). I have to admit that I have a basket that they get tossed in when I’m not using them, and occasionally I take the time to size them and put them all away.

And I have this tub out in my shed for the rest of my yarn ~ phew I better get knitting. Due to life circumstances, I probably won’t be buying much until next year, but thankfully I don’t think I will run out…  he he he

fall fibery goodness

I have a cousin who knits and likes home-spun, so I asked her what colors she would like ~ and she said fall colors. So I’ve been on the lookout for some fall colored fibery goodness that wasn’t too expensive. Well, last week I was prowling around etsy.com and came across this lovely bunch of fiber.

8 oz of soft merino, I got it from Designs by Velvet’s shop. It came in two 4 oz bundles. I split the first one down and did a little pre-drafting and all I have left to do of it is these two little buns of fiber.

It is spinning up real smoothly and quickly, the fiber preparation is nice. Once I’m done with this 4 oz, I’ll swap out my bobbin and spin up the second.

It’s turning out a little more “woodland” than “fall”, but I think she will like it. Here’s a sampling of what I working toward, a little bit thick thin in the light worsted to worsted range.

I hope everyone has a great weekend ~ I’m off to the ocean tonight for the weekend ~ I am sooooo looking forward to it.

budding romance

I’m joining up with Ginny on her “yarn along“. I love to knit and love to read – but since I haven’t figured out how to do both at the same time – I also love Audible. I’ve been listening to Swan Song by Robert McCammon and am reading Deadly Game by Christine Feehan which is book 5 of a series I’m borrowing from my sister.

I had another big wedding for flowers this last weekend, so again the fiber fun has just been snuck in here and there. A couple weeks ago, I finally pulled this yarn off the spindle and got it plyed. It had been hanging out on the spindle for a long time, I think it was glad to be free.

~ chasing rainbow dyeworks ~ color: juniper berry ~ 2 oz ~ 50% wool/50% tencel ~ 320 yards ~

I did some looking around Ravelry to find a project that would work for the beautiful little 320 yd skein. I looked through Susanna IC’s patterns (I love her designs) and found Romance and it only calls for 300 yds.  It does ask for dk to worsted weight and my yarn is more of a fingering weight, but I think I can make it work. I’l just make the crescent short row section not quite so deep.

I’m not sure if I’ve got the right needle size, I think I’ll do a few more rows and see what it looks/feels like. The color is really pooling on these first couple rows, I’ll have to see how I like that also.

And a little Instagram love to pull it all together…

I hope you all have a good week, see you next week…

a little weaving ~ a little spinning

I’m joining up with Ginny on her “yarn along“. I love to knit and love to read – but since I haven’t figured out how to do both at the same time – I also love Audible. I finished listening to Insurgent by Veronica Roth and am reading Conspiracy Game by Christine Feehan which is book 4 of a series I’m borrowing from my sister.

I haven’t had a much time for fiber fun over the last week, and this week isn’t much better. My cousin got married last weekend, and I did the flowers. And this weekend a friend is getting married, and I’m doing her flowers. So my mind has been focusing on that.

I did do a little weaving on my Kauni project. It was very warm hot in my little trailer, so I pulled it all outside, at least there was a breeze out there…

And I pulled out a spindle and have been doing a little spindling of some Rambouillet cross fiber I picked up a year or so ago. It was a light/dark natural color that I dyed red in my crock pot last summer. I like the different shades that developed.

I hope you all have a good week and that I survive this weekend…
